I’m a sucker for boutique hotels. They’re always my top choice when traveling. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to stay at one that has been on my radar for quite some time: Rae’s on Wategos.
Built in the 1940’s as a personal estate, Rae’s elegant Greek- and Moroccan-inspired design combines the architecture of my dreams. The sweeping views of Wategos Beach from our balcony, which we took in drinking champagne on an oversized daybed, made for the perfect afternoon.
I loved all the little design details. Sydney designer, Tamsin Johnson, was recently tasked with redesigning the space to better reflect Byron Bay and she has done an impeccable job.
We also tried their couples massage spa treatment. An absolute must if you are visiting. The masseuses were both out of this world and so, so friendly. They offer you tea before and after and the spa entrance is just outside the hotel's beautiful pool - perfect for post spa relaxing.
Rae’s on Wategos feels more like a home than a hotel. I was head over heels in love from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. It was the perfect ending to my stay in Byron and is now at the top of my list of favorite boutique hotels from around the world. Don’t miss this gem next time you’re in Byron. At the very least, make sure you grab lunch or a romantic dinner at their restaurant.
