While most people who visit Arizona head to the Grand Canyon (which you should definitely do if you haven’t already), there’s a lesser-known gem located just about 5 hours south… a quaint, super artsy, postcard picturesque town called, Sedona.
Sedona has been getting a quite a lot of press lately. And after visiting, I get why. With stunning views at every turn and a small town “this is home” feel that hugs your soul, Sedona has a unique charm unlike any city I’ve visited. That said, here are 3 reasons you should add Sedona to your travel bucket list in 2017:
Nature + Hiking
Nature is a deal breaker for me. When I’m traveling, I want to be able to get out of the city and tap into the precious bit of human nature we have left. Sedona delivers.
The sun gently kisses the red rocks in the morning, exposing their intricate patterns and colors. And there are SO many national forests and parks just a short drive from the city. I’d definitely recommend Oak Creek Canyon, Red Rock State Park (energy vortexes!), and Slide Rock State Park for a nice, relaxing walk along the river. You can find all of the national parks and forests here.
Hiking not your thing? You can still drive to some pretty stellar views. Like this one at the Sedona Airport Overlook. Just know, it will probably be busy around sunrise and sunset.
Art + Culture
Home to Native American artists for centuries, Sedona is home to a bustling art scene. With one-of-a-kind sculptures, jewelry and handmade crafts at every turn, it’s hard not to feel incredibly inspired.
You can get lost in the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts village or visit the numerous galleries and crystal jewelry shops located right downtown. You can find a full list of the Art Galleries in Sedona here.
Energy Healing + Relaxation
You may not know, but my grandfather is a Reiki Master trained me under his teachings. Just like a picture doesn’t do a sunset justice, no article could prepare you for the incredible energy you’ll experience in Sedona. Read more about the healing and energy forces in Sedona from an earlier post here.
Oh, and you can’t leave Sedona without getting a chakra aligning massage. My fiancé and I went to Uptown Massage and it’s still the best massage I’ve ever had. Ever.
